The Oscars: my top 3 for 2014

Posted by on Mar 4, 2014
It’s that time of the year again…. already! In terms of awards ceremonies, the Oscars are my favourite event to showcase how hair, makeup and clothes (when done well) can sit together in perfect harmony.

Here are my favourite looks this year:

Lupido Nyong’o

Slide1
The duck-egg blue dress is the perfect colour to make Lupido’s skin pop. This stunning actress has shown us throughout the award season that she’s not afraid of strong makeup, bold fashion and meaningful speeches! Her makeup here is minimal and clean. The peach lipstick and silver washed eye shadow, both cool in tone, complement her pastel (also cool toned) dress. Even her headband accessory, an unexpected red carpet choice, and one I can’t even pull off to go shopping, works well and keeps the look personal and youthful.

Cate Blanchett

Slide-2
On anyone else, Cate’s look could have been a disaster… in theory anyway. The high neckline AND hair out, heavily jewelled dress AND statement jewelled earrings are a lot to take in. But Cate always knows when and where to bend the style rules. Her nude-toned makeup complements her nude-toned dress. By keeping everything tonal and soft, we can appreciate her look as a whole.

Naomi Watts

Slide-2
Naomi has a face for makeup. She can pull off smokey eyes, feline flicks or a no-makeup look equally well. I love that she chose a balanced makeup look here. By balanced I mean her strong eyebrows are balanced out by the striking crimson lipstick. Even though she wore a round neckline, made higher by the spider web diamond chocker, her hair was styled down and straight. This kept the overall feel modern and edgy, a vibe she pulls off time and again.
