In my makeup kit…Benefit Mascara
… I’m currently enjoying Benefit’s Bad Gal Plum Mascara. It first wandered into my makeup kit as a sample, after one of my mega shopping trips to Sephora. Judging from the colour on the wand, I assumed it would be a bold and bright plum – perfect for a fashion shoot. But when I tried it on, I was surprised at how subtle (and flattering) the tone was. Strangely enough, it’s a product I now use to achieve a very natural, “no makeup” look!
Here’s what you should know before you consider buying it:
- The colour doesn’t look plum when it’s on your lashes. It’s much closer to a warm chocolate brown. Only in natural daylight, on very light lashes, is the plum tone remotely detectable.
- It’s perfect for people who don’t like the intensity and punch of black mascara and whose skin tone and hair prevents them from wearing it.
- It is best applied in one coat as it tends to clump and flake when applying more than two coats.
- The formula isn’t waterproof and easily dissolves with the smallest amount of water. So don’t wear it to the beach and steer clear of it if you have very watery eyes or rub them frequently.
